He died on 12 Oct 1996 in Gwinnett County, GA.(2) Joe died suddenly (massive coronary failure) while talking with his wife at home that Saturday evening, about 6:00 p.m. He was feeling good, life was going well, but he died without even being able to speak. Peggy said that she and Joe had started going to church more regularly recently. Just a few days before his death, Peggy and Joe were at a church meeting. Peggy said that Joe was usually quiet about his spiritual life, but at this meeting he said that he loved the Lord. Peggy was surprised to hear Joe speak out like that, but we are all glad to hear such a testimony. Peggy and her children face the sudden pain of losing Joe and will have the huge task of running the family business without him and without any warning of his death.

Joe died at his home: 3505 River Drive, SW, Lawrenceville, GA 30244.

Joe died the day before his oldest brother's birthday, who had also died suddenly at home with his wife from a heart attack in 1964 at a much younger age. He was buried on 16 Oct 1996 in Eternal Hills Memory Gardens, Snellville, GA. (3) Visitation was at Wages Funeral Home. The funeral service was held at Westminster Presbyterian Church, which Joe and Peggy attended, and was conducted by Dr. Robert D. Strachan and the Rev. Thomas Pipkin at 2:00 p.m. Burial was in a mausoleum.

The funeral home, the church, and the cemetary are all in Snellville, GA on highway 78. The cemetary is across the street from the funeral home.
