Lucas Nevius (son of Marten Pietersen Nevius and Willemptje Lucasse Van Voorhees) was born Abt. 1724 in Somerset, New Jersey, and died September 18, 1783 in Millstone, New Jersey. He married Mayche Cornell on May 23, 1749.

Lucas subscribed to the Neshanic Dutch church building fun in 1752, and joined the church September 14, 1762. He was elected deacon of the Sourland (Harlingen)Dutch church April 25, 1770, and April 1773, was an elder. In November 1781, he connected himself with the Millstone Dutch church and his wife followed in October 1782. Among records found of him as the following:
1752: August 10, Deed to Lucas Nevius from his father Martin Nevius, both of Somerset co., for three lots of land containing respectively 137 1/2 acres, 154 acres, and 7 acres, near Neshanic, NJ. Consideration 463 pounds.
1753: October 26, Deed from Coneraat Kouwell (Koul?) to Lucas Nevius, both of Somerset co., for land in Somerset on southerly side of Neu Shennick River, adjoining previous land of Lucas Nevius. Contained 7 acres; consideration 14 pounds. (Deed in possession of P. Eugene Nevius, East Millstone, NJ)
1755: May 29, Deed from Herbert Hommer of Somerset, to Lucas Nevius, land in Somerset adjoining Thomas Peterse and Herbert Hommer, containing 7 1/4 acres. Foregoing having been conveyed to Hommer, Nevius now conveys to Hommer in exchange 6 3/4 acres adjoining New Shennick, Lucas Nevius, and John Montfort. (Deed in possession of same).
1763: May 24, Deed from Jochem Gulick of Sowerland and Sarah, his wife, to Lucas Nevius of Shanneck. Consideration 1,000 pounds. Land at Sowerland adjoining Jacobus Vanarsdalen; contains 184 1/4 acres. Adjoined, south J. V.; east Powel Amerman, Hendrick Harter; northerly Martin Nevius, westerly, small lots. (Deed in possession of same).
1783: September 17, Will of Lucan Nevius (signed by his mark); he died the day following; of Millstone, NJ., (probate. Feb. 16, 1790). Provides: 1. Debts to be paid. 2. His wife Matye to have use of all his estate, real and personal, while she remains his widow. 3. In case of her marriage to have a daughter's share. 4. Whole estate, real and personal, to be sold after his wife's marriage or death. 5. Eldest son, Martinus, to have 50 pounds for his birthright. 6. Residue of the estate to be divided and the sons to have two shares against the daughters one share. Executors, Stephen Terhune, Peter Wyckoff. (Somerset co., NJ., Wills, Lib. 31, p.516)
