Notes for Anna Yoder: Anna grew up outside of Springfield, Ohio. She could read and write some German. Since Anna's boys were very young when her husband died, she took in ironing, rented a house, and worked for 2 families to support herself and her family. She liked to keep her house in good repair and did many of the repairs herself, like painting and wallpapering. Anna had a dog, Laddie, that was a good companion to her. She enjoyed going to the movies every week (it cost 15 cents back then), attending the Lutheran Church, Sunday dinners, and she enjoyed visiting with her grandchildren. She was always making plans on things they should have. Anna thought that the Depression was hard on the people who were used to having things, but said that she felt no different because she never had much and knew how to save her money.
