Marten Pietersen Nevius (b. 1693, d. Abt. 1766)
Marten Pietersen Nevius (son of Pieter Johannes Nevius and Jannetje "Jonica" Roelofse Schenck) was born 1693 in Flatlands, Kings County, New York, and died Abt. 1766 in Somerset, New Jersey. He married Willemptje Lucasse Van Voorhees on August 27, 1715 in Kings County, New York, daughter of Lucas Stevenson and Jannetje Minnes.

In 1715: On Kings co., N.Y., militia records are the names: "Marten Neves, Cornelius Neves, Peter Neves" as members of Capt. Roulif Terhunen's 51st Company.
In 1718 he is found in Marlborough, New Jersey with his brother, Pieter, both starting out, with their wives, as farmers in a rich, agricultural region to which there was then a strong tide of emigration from Long Island. About 10 years later he is found in the vicinity of New Brunswick, NJ, where in 1728 he had a child Johannes, baptised. "Sourlands" was the name given to lands along the Neshanic mountain, at what is now know as Harlingen.
1719: Entered as member of Marlborough church, NJ; name there spelled "Nefies"
1722: Feb. 18. Sponsor at Marlborough at baptism of "Willempe, dau. of Hendrick Voorhees."
1749: May 1. Deed from Johan William Koolbagh (signed by him "Joqumnes Kulbay"), of Somerset co, and Mary, his wife, to "Martin Neves" of Somerset. co. Recites that Koolbagh, with "coenradt Koul" and "Jan Herbert Homer" had purchased a tract of John Chambers, attorney of New York City, dated Nov. 21-22,173-, and that said Koolbagh, Koul and Homer have decided to make partition of the premises. Conveyance is to M.N. for 506 pounds, 5s, 5d. Conveys Lot 1 of 137 1/2 acres, n..w. cor. of Thomas Peterson's land; line crosses "Neshanning Brook". Lot 2 joins Jan Herbert Homer in line of Peterson and adjoins in rear "the 9,000 acre tract;" contains 154 acres. Lot 3 contains 7 acres. (Deed in possession of P. Eugene Nevius, East Millstone, NJ)
1752: Aug. 10. Marten Nevius of Somerset co., to Lucas, his son. Consideration 463 pounds. Conveys before mentioned tract to Lucas. (Deed in possession of same)
1761: Aug. 1. Will of Marten Nevius of "Sourland," Somerset co., NJ, probat. Aug. 16, 1766. Provides: 1. That his eldest son, Peter, shall have 50 pounds for his birth-right. 2. That each of his three daughters, "Williamtye", Maria, and Leah, "not yet married", shall have 40 pounds in lieu of an outset. 3. He gives to his son "Martynes," his "plantation in Sowerland in Somerset," the latter to pay for the same 850 pounds in six equal payments, the first in three months after testator's decease and then once each year thereafter. 4. Said 850 pounds and the rest of his estate to be equally divided, the one-eighth each to his dau. Janetje; his son, Peter; his dau. Willlemtye; his son, Lucas; his grandchildren, the children of his son Johannes deceased named as Willeemtye, Fammetye and Martynes - when they arrive at twenty-one; his son, Martynes; his dau. Maria, and his dau. Leah. 5. His executors to be, Peter, Lucas and Martynes, his sons. This will fixes the order of his children; no other records do.
1768: Action by "Petrus Nefies, Luycas Nefies and Martinus Nefies, executors of Martin Nefies." v. Hendrick Cruser for 150 pounds. Defendant took up case on habeas corpus, having been held to bail for same. (NJ Supreme Court papers, No. 27689).
