Carrie Mauritzen (b. May 1889, d. date unknown)
Carrie Mauritzen (daughter of James "Jens" Peter Mauritzen and Johanne "Jennie" Peterson)1939 was born May 1889 in Peru, IL1939, and died date unknown in Peru, Illinois1939. She married Fred Rodda.
Notes for Carrie Mauritzen:
Carrie died very young, while feeding her boys, Kenny & Arthur who were 4 & 7. The boys came to live at the family home with Aunt Margaret and Aunt Mayme who then raised them. Aunt Margaret tutored the boys who seemed to have difficulties reading. Apparently their father couldn't handle them on his own, or, as Carrie's brother Harry James Mauritzen (my grandfather) said, "He was just stupid."
Aunt Lois remembers being at the house for her funeral, but she was a small child. She and Uncle Murray were playing outside in the sandbox and not allowed in the house at the time. But he didn't like his mother-in-law's second husband Carl Hoesch either. He thought Carl was lazy -- Carl was also a bartender for John Doerr and he often remarked that Carl was coming in the back door as John was going out the front door (Lena's). Carl immigrated from Germany to escape fighting under Keiser Wilhelm. but he didn't like his mother-in-law's second husband Carl Hoesch either.
