sp. Lantzberg/Landsberg

Anna is believed to have come from nobility, was perhaps a duchess, but lost her title when she married Anton Hochguertel, a commoner.
Anton & Anna immigrated in 1880, settled first in Peoria, then moved to LaSalle, then settled in Peru by 1882, making it their home for 42 years. She couldn't read or write English. According to 1900 census, they had 12 children, 5 living. Mamie was the only daughter born in the US. On that census she is 17, living with them and listed as Mamie Gangler.
Anna liked children and the grandchildren spent a lot of time with her as they grew up. They celebrated their 50th anniversary two years before Anton's death in 1914. After Anna's husband Anton died, Anna went to live with her daughter Lena Hochguertel Doerr (my gr. grandmother) and Lena's second husband Carl, at the family home at 1614 7th & Peoria Sts.
In the 1920 census, living with her are daughter Lena, 51, son-in-law Charles Hoesch, 46, a foreman, born in Essen, nephew Anton Colling, 56, a miner. He is single and immigrated in 1882. Anton Colling was the son of Barbara Hochguertel Colling. Barbara was Anna's husband's sister.
She died at her home, 1104 Peoria St. Death certificate spells her name as Lantzberg, same sound as Landsberg, spelling used in the obituary. Her father was Carl Lantzberg. Her obituary refers to her as a "pioneer resident of Peru". She was 85.
