Includes NotesNotes for Domas "Tonius" James Baumstark:
April 2003

I think this is the end of the line for me in my research on the Baumstarcks.

In the 1860 Census for Peru, IL there is a man called "James" Baumstark, who I think is our Baumstark. He is 47 in 1860. That puts his birth at 1813. I would think he immigrated in 1855 with his 15 year-old daughter Louisa, but I can't confirm if there was a wife who came as well, or even other sibilings with Louisa.
Ten years later in the 1870 Census James Baumstark is 56, also from Baden, Germany and living with his daughter Louisa Doerr, which leads me to believe this 1860 Census man is our man, even though I don't know where the "James" has come from.
From here on he is referred to as "Domas" on his daughter's death certificate and "Tonius" on subsequent census records.
In the 1880 census he is living still with his daughter, age is 66, and he doesn't appear in her household in the1900 census, so that puts his death between 1880 & 1900.
