Includes NotesNotes for Johanne "Jennie" Peterson:

Johanna immigrated to the US from Copenhagen in 1876, according to Aunt Margaret's letter in my possession. She seems to have come to Peru, Illinois and then became the second wife of James Mauritzen, who was a widower with a 4- year-old daughter Jennie.
They had six children of their own and lived in the family home on 4th & Plum Street in Peru until her death (See 1920 Census file photostat). She was 75 at the time and her name is listed as Johnna. She lived in the family home on 4th & Plum with only her daughter Margaret A., who was 26 at that time and never married (the school teacher; she actually taught me in 1st grade, which would have been in 1952). Her daughter Mayme must have been living there at the time also, unless she was working in Chicago after her nurse's training. I always thought she returned home and worked at People's Hospital all her life.
Johanna died of a stroke in 1922. My Uncle Murray (her grandson) remembers his father Harry (Johanna's son) telling him he had to go in to her sick room and talk with her after her stroke. He remembers it being terrible because she couldn't talk and he couldn't wait to leave. He says he only remembers her as a "little old lady". Murray would have only been 10 at the time.
Marriage certificate confirms James was 33 and Johanna was 29 when they were married by a "Minister of the Gosel" in Peru, Illinois.
