This was a great new find. I didn't know we went back yet another generation with Roman Rimmeles. And finding his wife Catherine Schaab/Schaub as well!!

Have a hit on Anc.com Wis. marriages pre 1907. Will try to send for records. 26 Feb 1853. It certainly could be our Roman, there just aren't many Romans and the date would fit.

1860A Census has him in LaSalle, age 31 married to Catherine, 28, and three children; Roman 4, Catherine 2, and Frederick 6 months. All the children have been born here and it lists both Roman and Catherine as being from Prussia.

Strange situation in that there seem to be 2 listings for them in the 1860 census. 1860B differs in that Catherine is 31, Roman is 30, children the same ages. Also listed Ann Vunn (sp) Frederick Vunn and Catherine Stick. Maybe boarders? Roman is a coppersmith.

1880 Census lists him as 50 years old and occupation is expressman, Kate is 51 and children Fred 20 and Charley 11 are at home. They also have a niece and nephew Anna & Nicholas Walters, 18 & 23. Wonder if they're Catherine's family since they list IL as their birth place but Switzerland as their mother's.

Also could have immigration record on him. At age 21 Roman arrives in NY, May 17, 1852 on the Sterling sailing from LeHavre, France, if that's him. I also have the marriage in Milwaukee of 1853 (waiting for document 5-05). If this marriage is our Roman, then he and Catherine were married in the US and not in Germany Considering we can't pinpoint his son's birth to either 1857 or 1854, depending on which document you believe we could still try to find his mother's immigration under her maiden name.
