guiding the great ships about the sholes and sandbars on the coast as two
sources editorialize as to his "skill and reliability." He married Susan
Wendell Eaton of Farmington, and lived his most of his life at Tisbury,
however his death is not in the Tisbury records and his death date is
recorded in the History of Farmington. At Tisbury he is said to have held
many town offices, and "declined re-election when the infirmities of age
compelled him to do so." At death he left one son, William H. Allen who was
35 in July of 1888.
