Fairbanks died this morning sho rtly after one o'clock at Dr. Burke's Sanitarium, near this city. *** It was not generally kn own that Colonel Fairbanks was sick at the Sanitarium, although he had not been a well man fo r a long time. The news of his death comes as a shock. *** Colonel Fairbanks became well kno wn in military circles of the State while Colonel of the Fifth Infantry N.G.C., and commande d that regiment during the memorable railroad strike in 1894.
