He was born in Wardsboro Vermont, of an honorable parentage, his father for many years a J.P and representing his native town in the state assembly. He emigated to this county 51 years ago, at the age of 30, purchasing and clearing up the farm now occupied by Joseph GARFIELD, he afterwards removed to Ellicott, and eventually to the town of Poland. Mr. Fairbanks is described by his contemporaries as a man of vigorous constitution, a strong mind, intelligent and honorable in his dealings. He was a man of great industry and enterprise and contributed a noble part towards laying the foundation of society in this county, developing its resources, and making it what is.
