She received the Rite of Confirmation (on 5 April 1925 at Zion Lutheran of Lincoln, Nebraska. Pastor G. J. Schmidt officiated.
Mrs. Hiegel grew up and received her education at Lincoln. Then, on 12 January 1928 she was united in holy matrimony to Rudolph Hiegel at Council Bluffs, Iowa. They lived in Lincoln, Nebraska; then, in Chicago, Illinois, and at Bayard, Nebraska, before moving to Grand Island in January 1957. It was while they farmed north of Grand Island that they became members of Trinity Lutheran in 1958. They remained on the farm until May 1969, when they moved to Lincoln. They returned to Grand Island in 1976.
Our sister in Christ demonstrated her faith in many different ways. One was being a team member with Mrs. Edna Brase in visiting the sick and shut in members, singing, and praying in German with them. The "sewing/quilting room" at Trinity won't seem quite the same without her. Her skill at making soap for folks in overseas places will be missed, as she will be missed by her husband, Rudolph of Grand Island; her three sons: Robert of St. Libory; Lee of Apple Valley, MN; and Clarence of Grand Island; Besides, there are 9 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, one brother, Peter Harris of Lincoln; and her sisters: Margaret Schleiger and Elizabeth Loos of Lincoln; and Marie Haas of Sacramenta, CA.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Norma Jean Kramer; one great grandson; and one brother. At Trinity Lutheran she was a member of the Ladies' Aid, Sewing Circle, and Bible study.
