!BIOGRAPHY: Interview with Elaine Coffman Kelly by Nick Cimino 4 Nov 1989
Grandma Harriet Ketcham Coffman lived close to her daughter, Viola, on 45th Street. Sh e was supposed to have come from Illinois. She had a collection of amber glass beads that sh e would bring out and show Elaine.

!BIOGRAPHY: Interview with Vivian McGrath by Nick Cimino 10 Nov 1989
Grandma Harriet lived on 45th Street in Oakland and when Vivian would visit she would ma ke green tea and sugar cookies which was fascinating to her as child (age about 9 to 12). Ha rriet had a wash tub that was a great big cylinder type on the back porch. The children wer e allowed to climb the cherry tree in the back yard but it was hard to get out of it. Harrie t rented that house.
Grandma Harriet had this big rooming house that she rented on 22nd Street.
It was a tall building possibly two story although Vivian can not remember ever being on th e second floor. Vivian carried two bottles of milk to this house at age 5 or 6 and fell an d cut her wrist. The house was torn down when West Grand Avenue was put through. There wa s a radio store, one of the first in Oakland, located around the corner. This store was fasc inating to Vivian because at that time they did not have a radio.
When Harriet died she lived on 45th Street not too far from where Millie (Ernie Coffman' s mother) lived, possibly only a couple of doors down. This was the same house that had th e cherry tree. They were intrigued to find in her closet two feet of nicely pressed handkerc hiefs that she had picked up in her wanderings.

Mr. Ketcham was born at Manchester, Indiana, May 17, 1826. He was married Nov. 10, 1852 , to Mary Lucinda Fairbanks, and two years later they moved to a farm in Pilot Grove township ; where they resided until they removed to this city Feb. 22, 1891. Since the death of his wife the aged fa ther has made his home with his children. For the past year he has been enfeebled in body an d mind that his care required the closest watch and concern, the deepest filial affection wa s manifested by all, and they repaid in devotion and helpfulness what they received at the ha nds of loving parents. Father and mother have passed to the bourne, but the children and chi ldren's children will hold in sacred reserve the parental affection bestowed.
Mr. Ketcham was a man of kindly ways, social and companionable and in his long residence h ere More than sixty years-- he was held in highest esteem for integrity, honesty..."

!OBITUARY: La Harpe Quill; 28 June 1910; DEATH RECORD--James H. Ketcham "DIED--At the home o f his daughter, Mrs. I. N. Mealey, one half mile west of LaHarpe, at 1:45 p.m., June 23, 1910 , JAMES HENRY KETCHAM, aged 84 years, 1 month and 6 days.
James H. Ketcham was born near Aurora, Indiana May 18, 1826, where he grew to manhood an d November 10, 1852 was united in marriage to Mary L. Fairbanks. Some time during the year 18 54, they came to Illinois locating in Pilot Grove township, Hancock County. There they resid ed until about fifteen years ago, when feeling the infirmities of age creeping upon them the y moved to this city. The wife died September 12, 1907. Mr. and Mrs. Ketcham were the parent s of eleven children, seven daughters and four sons, and what seems rather remarkable, all gr ew to manhood and womanhood and are living today. With the exception of the oldest daughter , Mrs. Coffman, who was a babe when the parents came to this vicinity all were born in Pilo t Grove township.
Mr. Ketcham and his wife passed through the privations of pioneer life and reared this lar ge family on a small farm of about 70 acres, which was a strong test on their energy and frug ality, but they succeeded in spite of all difficulties confronting them and managed to sav e a little money besides for use in their declining years.
Mr. Ketcham was honorable in all of his dealings with his fellow men and met every obligat ion of every nature with promptness and fidelity. In political affiliation he adhered strong ly to the doctrines of democracy and while he never had time or inclination to seek office wa s several times elected constable of his township and in an early day was deputy sheriff of H ancock County. In early manhood he united with the Methodist church at the Rock school hous e in Pilot Grove township.
Mr. Ketcham's health had been failing for several years but the decline has been more noti ceable since the death of his wife. He has lived among his children since that time and ever y effort was put forth to make his last days comfortable.
The children are: Mrs. Hattie Coffman, of New York City; Mrs. Gertrude Wilcox, of Carthage ; Mrs. Rosa Reiselt, Mollie Mealey, Stella Thompson and Ethel Hurdle, of this city and Mrs. A lice Northup, of Blackwell, Oklahoma; Marion Ketcham, of Shenandoah, Iowa; Charles and Will , of this city; and Henry of Disco. All with the exception of Mesdames Coffman and Northup w ere here for the funeral.
Funeral services were held at the Mealey home Saturday, June 25, 1910, at 2 o'clock p.m. , Rev. E.R. Horton officiating. Burial in La Harpe cemetery.
