Illness Proves Fatal to A.G. Hartley: Insurance Executive Succumbs at Home Near Son's Chapel

A.G. Hartley, insurance company founder and executive in Washingtoncounty for a number of years, and widely known in this area, died at his home near Son's Chapel last night after an illness of several weeks. He had not been in good health for a number of months.

Born in Delaware county, he came to Fayetteville from Kansas City in 1919(?) and located on a farm near Son's Chapel. He soon became identified with movements to better the farmers of the area. He helped to organize the Washington County Mutual Fire Insurance Co. in 1922 and was president and a director of this company at the time of his death. He was secretary of the Northwest Arkansas Farmer's Mutual Tornado Insurance Company and was president of the Northwest Arkansas Production Credit Association and chairman of the loan board of the association, serving 11 counties in this section of the state. He was one of the leading workers in the organization of the Arkansas Farm Bureau Cooperative Marketing Association.

Mr. Hartley was a member of the Fayetteville Rotary Club and was past grand master of the Missouri I.O.O.F He was a member of the Fayetteville Methodist church, had served for a number of years as school director of the Son's Chapel School district, and had taught a Sunday School class at Son's Chapel in the building which he helped to construct.

Funeral service has been set tentatively for 10 am Thursday at the Central Methodist church, under the direction of Moore's Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Mt. Washington cemetary, Kansas City, Fri- day morning.

Mr. Hartley is survived by his wife, Mrs. Savannah Hartley; a son, Virgil Hartley, Kansas City; a daughter, Mrs. Ray Ward, Kansas City; three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and a step-daughter, Mrs. D.C. McGinnis, New York City. Virgil Hartley and Mrs. Hartley and Mr. and Mrs. Ward were here at the time of his death.

Mrs. McGinnis, who spent some time here earlier this summer, will be here for the funeral and to accompany her mother to Kansas City."
