Uriah Stevens and Nancy Keville left Kentucky in 1809 or 1810, and migrated southward. In 1810, they were in Amite County, Mississippi, and in 1812 Uriah Stevens claimed and settled on land in Louisiana. The land office in St. Helena Parish, Louisiana issued Certificate #631 to Uriah Stevens who was "...entitled to a section of land, situated in his Parish of St. Tammany on which he now resides as an actual settler and so reported to the Commissioner in his Report of Actual Settlement Claims." Section 46 was 269 acres and Section 43 was 369 acres laid out along the Tangipahoa River. They lived on property located near Mt. Stevens and Stevens (Tycar Road) Cemeteries east of Tickfaw, Louisiana - lying between LA Route 1065 and the Tangipahoa River. Following the death of Uriah and Nancy Stevens, the estate was composed of 1519 acres - all but 640 acres were sold by a sheriff's sale to settle the estate for the heirs.

"Uriah Stevens died on October 21, 1855, probably of typhoid fever, as this was noted by the attending physician to have been the cause of death of his sons, John Benjamin and Calvin. They are believed to be buried in the old Stevens Cemetery located on Tycer Road east of Tickfaw, Louisiana, and a grave marker has been installed there for them."
