MILITARY SERVICE:
In April 1955, he was sent to Army Engineering School and learned drafting. In May 1956, he was sent back to Engineering School to learn Carto-Drafting. He then spent a year in Verona, Italy. He received a Good Conduct Medal, and on August 19, 1957, he was given a honorable discharge with the rank of Sargent.

EDUCATION:
Merle attended grade school at Island, Kentucky where his mother was a teacher. He graduated from Central High School in Evansville, Indiana. He then attended the University of Kentucky, and graduated with a BS in Mechanical Engineering on June 11, 1962.

After working for Humble Oil and Refining Company (later to become Exxon) in New Orleans, Louisiana and Morgan City, Louisiana, he returned to the University of Kentucky to enter graduate school. He attend on a National Science Scholarship which he secured with the help of Kentucky Senator John Sherman Cooper. On December 2, 1965, he received a MS degree in Mechanical Engineering.

He then went to work for Shell Oil Company in Houston, Texas, and Shell Oil sent him to New Orleans, Louisiana and Midland, Texas. He then spent a year with Storm Drilling Company in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil where he was their General Manager. Upon returning to the States, he went to work for the Zapata Corporation where he was Vice President of Operations. He then became one of the founders and member of the board of directors for Conquest Exploration Company. Merle spent a year as a consultant with the Marc Rich Company where he lived in London, England, and spent a lot of time in Russia - mostly Siberia. At the present time (1994), he owns his own company - HMM Oil Management Company, and does consulting work in the oil industry.

The wedding of Miss Ann Kevil Morgan and Mr. Merle Myers took place at four-thirty o'clock in the Ogden Memorial Methodist Church in Princeton. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John B. Morgan. The groom is the son of Mrs. Myma Myers of Calhoun, Kentucky.

"The Methodist minister was transferred just before the wedding, and the Presbyterian minister, Reverand Orville Pearson, performed the ceremony. My father was an elder in the Presbyterian Church, which is why we chose him."
