This is in regard to William Calvin Shoemaker and Margaret Elizabeth Call Shoemaker's daughter Rosetta. Rosetta was disowned by her parents due to pregnant and not married. This writer finds that a little astonishing as William and Margaret were married less then two months before their first born arrived. They were married 12-24-1883 their son Charles Richard Shoemaker was born 2-17 1884.
William did buy her a coffin and payed for her burial in Rice Cemetery, County Road P. Chariton Co., Missouri.

Also note that Martha stated in the letter at the bottom to have someone read it to him, its possible he may not have been able to read.

Now Bill in the children signing their rights away to your estate, I don't think Percy ought two because he needs the money two get him some clothes with rite now he needs a suit of clothes and some under wear and some shoes and an every day pair an a pair for sunday and some shirts and cap for sunday. Your boys are all stout able bodied men and Percy is not his hands is sore now and I think in stead of him giving to you folks you ought to give him his just rights, his mothers part of the estate and another thing I think you ought to pay me a dollar a day board for Rose staying at my house those two months before Percy was born and also after he was born. It ought to be worth $100
you couldn't of got any one else to done it any cheaper. We have been told we can get $500 for Rose being sick and dieing at our house. Now Bill if you will send me a check for the one hundred dollars I wont say anymore about it but if you dont I will put im my claim against the estate for five hundred dollars. You no you have made the children pay you board. Charlie and John David has payed you board and I heard Tucker has payed board. So I dont want you to think hard of me for wanting you to pay me the $100 for board and taking care of Rose while at my house in her sickness and death. I think I earned it they didnt no one offered to come an help clean up or any thing and besides they come and took all of Roses clothes away after she died. I could of made Percy lots of things out of them if the hadnt took them. Now you get someone to read this two you and think it over and let me no what you are going to do about it. I think you ought to have pay and besides Percy needs all he can get and then some.
I will close for this time answer soon as ever your friend Martha Fry
