William Curtis Henderson as told by his great granddaughter

My great grandfather Willian Curtis Henderson ( Bill ) was a Blacksmith by trade in Oakwood, Missouri.
He was a heavy drinker and a character. My brother Gary said one time he was at the Mac's Cafe across from my parents house in Oakwood, Mo. He watched an incident which involved William and at the time was 80 or 90 years old. He was having a loud disagreement in the bar area of the cafe, Brother seen William hitting another man in the head with his cane and that ended that little affair.
My mother his granddaughter told he was an alcoholic and did not treat his wife very well as he run around a so much. She also stated that he was a person you couldn't help but like and that his wife loved him so much.
My father knew him and told that during the period of prohibition he sold moonshine out of his Blacksmith Shop, and that he hid his bottle in his grain bin.
Willim was also a great hunter as told by my fathers cousin Jim Alexander and also by a neighbor who also knew him. William had several hunting hounds, when not hunting they meandered around in the yard but when he came out dressed in his hunting attire and his gun they were excited and ready to go. My brother Jimmy Lee also remembers hearing the hounds in the night hunting and in the morning my grandfather Enock Hostetter would find a dead fox on his porch. William and his son in law did not like each other much.
After my twin and I were born he came daily to our house to see us. He had a shot or two while there and my mother did not like that so she put a stop to him coming and the visits ended.
Brother Jimmy Lee also remembers him playing pool with another elderly man and William always won. They both had arthritis and their fingers were stiff and curled up but managed to hold the pool sticks.

Our family didn't know any of his family,. His father left his mother accusing her of infidelity, this happened in 1883.
In the early years they knew William as Willie but in later years called him Bill. This was before he moved to Hannibal.
He singed his hair with a burning newspaper instead of going to the barber. This was very upsetting to his daughter whom he lived with she was afraid he would set his self on fire.
During the 1950's brother Jimmy came home on leave from the army. My mother and him heard a bunch of kids across the street at the cafe laughing so they went to see what was going on William was crawling around on his knee barking. They went over and took him home he was laughing all the while.
Another instance that mother observed later on he was crawling up the stairs to the house and his daughter was behind him switching him all the way in the house.
His alcoholism caused a lot of family hardship and affected the whole family.
