According to family legend, Samuel and seven younger Kirkpatrick brothers sailed
from Dublin, Ireland in the year 1842 and came to America. They went to Fayetteville,
Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, then on to Steubenville, Jefferson County, Ohio.
The lure of the west took them on to Mark and Monteray, Davis County, Iowa.
The rest of their lives were spent here and their descendants have spread to
all parts of the United States.
Samuel met Annie on the boat, Who was traveling with her aunt and uncle
and cousin. Cousin Matt Faist taught Samuel the Shoe Cobbling trade. He was
married to Susanna E. HOCKENDUBBLE UNKNOWN in Pennsylvania.
Susanna E. HOCKENDUBBLE was born in 1819 in Germany. She died in 1893
in Davis Co., Iowa. She was buried in 1893 in Johnson cemetery south of Monteray,
Iowa. She has reference number Kirk541.
She Had A rock for marker until late 19th century. Then Elvis Van Kirkpatrick
and his son Ronnie Ross Kirkpatrick placed a headstone on her grave . Samuel
KIRKPATRICK and Susanna E. HOCKENDUBBLE had the following children:
