I have been told that Abraham Lincoln Kauffman was born in Harrisburg, PA, Dauphin county. I have searched census records and been unable to find any information regarding this person. My mother, Inez Kauffman, gave me these names of his siblings several years before she died. They are Elmer, Jake, Joe, Will, Anna Kauffman Simpson and Rebecca Kauffman Berrier. I have a picture of Aunt "Beck" taken with Grandpa Abraham. My cousin, Janet Kauffman Eastin said she heard her mother-in-law Sadie Kauffman talk about an Aunt Beck.

In the 1900 census their last name is spelled Coffman.

This information was taken from Tulsa Annals, Winter 1992-1993 issue. *I was shocked when I read this magazine to find my grandparents and my fathers name. I did not know they had lived at Dawson Township, Tulsa County, Oklahoma. I also found out that my father had attended the Mingo school which is located on north Mingo close to the airport.
(****The 1900 census shows his parents as being born in Germany, this census shows that they were born in PA. I believe that the 1900 census is more accurate. I don't know who supplied the information in either report.****

14th Census of the US (1920 census)
State - OK, County - Craig; township - Municipal #8, Enumeration Date - Jan. 14, 1920; Roll 1458, sheet 52, district - precincts 2 and 3

Mary Coffman, wife, 54, married, born in MO.
Ruby A. Coffman, daughter, 16, born in OK
Thelma M. Coffman, daughter 12, OK

The above information does not match. He was buried under the name of Kauffman, my father is identified with the spelling of Kauffman. This, I assume, is the correct spelling of the name.
-------------------------------------------------

In July 1997 I met Sharon Coleman, daughter of Margaret Howard (Aunt Blanche's daughter) at a family reunion near Verdigris, Oklahoma. We shared information about the family. At that time she knew very little information about the family. Through her contacts on e-mail she discovered that a lady in Rolla, MO had a family name of Berrier. I had been searching for Rebecca Barrier, who I knew was Grandpa Lincs oldest sister. August 1998 Sharon, Gene and I went to Chillicothe, Livingston Co., MO and met the granddaughter Helen Cowsert of Tina, MO. She was in her 80's. Dian originally sent me a picture of Rebecca Berrier. Through Dian Dilley we obtained pictures of the A.L. Kauffman family when my father was quite small. I cried when I received the picture. A gentleman in CA, David Berrier, (who I also met through the internet) sent me a picture of Grandpa Linc and his brother William (Bill) Kauffman. Bill lost a leg in the Civil War. They are in cowboy clothes. This picture, I assume, was taken approximately 1880-1895? - strictly a guess from their ages. Dave Berrier said that he had heard that Linc had lost his leg below the knee, however this was Bill. The story is told that Bill was given a bottle of booze and told the leg would have to be removed with a knife. I assume this was on the battlefield. (Dave's father was Harry Berrier, 3rd son of Rebecca. He is great grandson of Aunt Beck.) When they first sent pictures there was no doubt that the picture I had of Beck with Grandma and Grandpa Kauffman was the Rebecca Berrier I had been searching for. Finally the names that my mom had told me all fit into place. I also have a picture of Elmer Kauffman taken with Rebecca Berrier.

Sharon Coleman and I believe that Abraham Lincoln Kauffman was born in Perry County, PA. His parents were Alexander and Rebecca (Lohr) Kauffman who lived in this county. On the birth record of his oldest two children that Sharon and I found at the Carrollton Court House it lists the place of birth of Linc as Perry Co.

Molly lived to age 85 years in Ketchum, Oklahoma and is buried there. She walked 2 miles to town each day. She always wore tennis shoes. When she visited her children in later years, the children would buy her new shoes and make her a new dress. - written by Karen Kauffman Wiggins

I never saw my grandmother many times. I don't ever remember her hugging me the way I think a grandmother should. We were not there unless there was a funeral. She lived at the top of a hill on land which was very rocky. I don't know how they made a living on that property. I remember her as being dirty. Janet Kauffman said that every time she came to Owasso for a funeral, Frank (her father-in-law would tell Sadie, his wife) to get her a new dress and clean her up. The children that did grow up in that area said that she was a mean woman who never showed love even to them. I just thought in later years that it was because I was not there that much. - Jeanette Kauffman Redman

The information I have is identified in Tulsa Annual - winter 1992-1993 shows a different census than that identified by Karen Wiggins
