Other papers indicate the 65th Ohio Vol. Infantry had arrived there the 30th of Dec., 1861. Benjamin had gone there to visit his son, Major James Olds. The letter is as follows: "Burdstown, Kentucky, Jan. the 25 1862. Abigail Olds Dear wife. I thought as writing was fashionable I would write to you having little leasure. I am not very well today tho I am not much alarmed. I got vaxenated to day as the small pox is in the camp. The hospital is a little out of town where the small pox is and we are not much alarmed about it. There is two hospital buildings in town about five hundred on the sick list. From four to five out of that number die a day. Poor creatures suffer very much for want of care. The lady that tends to James as to dressing blisters and getting his vittles goes threw the hospital every day.
