Srinivasan, Chennai The "Mudumbai" families are the descendants of a group ordained by Sri Ramanujacharya at Madurantakam who were asked to spread out to various places to protect and propogate Vaishnava siddhantam. As such the vamsa is a blessed one with a glorious religious history. Mudumbai village stated to be near Kanchipuram; some have suggested Mannargudi as the origin of the Mudumbaiyars; they possibly migrated to Tanjore District and then on to Ramanathapuram District
