Robert A. IV ABERNATHY (b. March 27, 1719, d. Abt. 1792)

Robert A. IV ABERNATHY (son of Robert A. III ABERNATHY and Mary Miles HARWELL) was born March 27, 1719 in Prince George, VA, and died Abt. 1792 in Lincoln, NC. He married Sarah Ann ABERNATHY on 1741 in Virginia.

Will was witnessed by Jogn Rockett and James Abernathy; who was probably a son of James who drowned.

Moved to Granville Co. Nc. in 1752 and lived near Catawba Spr. Served in Militia.

Was an officer in the colonial Militia (N.C. col. and State Records. Vol 22, pp 309, 368, 369, 370, 372) and in the Armies of the Rev; member from Tryon county in the Provincial Congress of 1776 which adopted the Declaration of Rights and Constitution for North Carolina as a State Independent of Great Britian; and member from Lincoln County in North Carolina House of Commons, 1779. 13 N. Car. col. and State records, pp 811 to 1000.

Will not dated, but after 1779. Wife, Sarah. Children: Robert Jr., William, Charles, John, Miles, Sarah, Amey and Smith Abernathy, Lucy Cox and Nathan Abernathy. Exector and Executrix: Son Nathan Abernathy and wife Sarah Abernathy. Signed by name. Witnesses: John Rockett, James Abernathy. No date of probate.
