13. Robert Marvin SCHUMACHER Sr. was born on 1 Feb 1931 in Elwood, IL. Robert lived with his family on a farm south of Elwood, IL until 1941 when they moved to a farm on the edge of Plano, IL. He attended Stars Grove School, a one room school until moving to Plano. After high school graduation in 1948, Robert attended the University of Illinois receiving a degree in general agriculture and a reserve army commission of February 15, 1953. In 1968 Robert received his Masters Degree in Science Education from Texas A & M University.

Robert served until March 17, 1955 in the US Army Signal Corps. The last 13 months were spent in Pusan, Korea as a teletype relay station duty officer.

In the fall of 1955, he began his teaching career at Sears School, Plano, Il, a one room all eight grades school. Robert taught in the Bristol and Yorkville schools until 1975 when he was appointed principal of both an elementary school and a junior high school. He was recognized by the National Science Teachers Association for his contribution to creative science teaching and received State of Illinois recognition for his outstanding leadership in education. Robert retired from education in June of 1988.

Concurrently with his career in education, Robert operated the family farm for ten years, a general contractor for home construction, and prepared income tax reports for others (which he has continued to do after his retirement).

As a youth, Robert was active in the Boy Scouts. In later years, he was a scout leader, a library board member, school board member, and an American Legion member. He served on, as well as chaired, many educational committees.

He was married to June G. GRAMLEY (daughter of William Ellis GRAMLEY and Frances Dema ERICKSON) on 6 Sep 1952 in Plano, IL. June G. GRAMLEY was born on 22 Mar 1932 in Plano, IL. June was born at the family farm home north of Plano, IL, during a late spring blizzard.

She attended Little Rock School, a one room school through the fourth grade and then attended Plano Grade School and Plano High School. June attended the University of Illinois majoring in Home Economics for two and one half years.

Until 1973, June managed the home and raised the children. She was elected City Treasurer for the city of Plano. For the next twelve years she served as City Treasurer and Budget Officer. Through schooling, June was certified for this office. She was an active member and officer in the Illinois Municipal Treasurers Association.

Some of her delight in raising a family was to have three foreign exchange students living with the family at different times.

As a youth, June was very active in the 4-H programs. She won local and state honors with her projects. While attending the University of Illinois, she as a member of the 4-H House. Robert Marvin SCHUMACHER Sr. and June G. GRAMLEY had the following children:
