The Thomas & Jane McCullough Lloyd Family Home Page

We are researching my third grandparents Thomas S. Lloyd and Martha Jane McCullough. He was believed to have been born 26 Dec. 1763 in Chester County, PA and died 15 Apr. 1857 in Grainger County, TN. She was born 8 Jan. 1768 in Orange County, NC and died 28 Apr. 1856 in Grainger County, TN. They were married 4 Mar. 1787 in Orange County, NC and are buried in the Lloyd Cemetery near Rutledge, Grainger County, TN. The marriage bonds from Orange County, NC list their names as Thomas Loyd and Jane M. Cully. They had some ten children, all born in Caswell County, NC. They moved to Grainger County, TN about 1819. Thomas shows up in Grainger County Census Records as Thomas Loyd. One son, Robert, who seems to have been the family business man, shows up in Grainger County records as Robert Loyd/Lloyd. Other children, James, Anna, Jane, and others show up as both Loyd and Lloyd. In the 1850 TN Census, Thomas states that he was born in Delaware. We have no idea if he meant the state or the county in PA. The family has excellent records from them to present day but have nothing on Thomas' ancestry. We believe Martha Jane was the daughter of a Joseph McCullough, Sr. and his wife Elizabeth. My branch of the family comes from their son, John Lloyd. He and his wife, Nancy Walker Lloyd moved from Orange County, NC to Polk County, MO about 1825. Settled and started a family. In 1845 they moved on to Benton County,OR as part of the great wagon train of that year. After a number of years in Benton County, OR three of his sons moved on to the Walla Walla and Eastern WA area. Any information you have would be appreciated and we are only to willing to share what we have. Thank you. George & Christina Lloyd
