George I Whitten (son of Charles II Whitten and Milicent Regan) was born January 22, 1787 in Newberry Co., SC, and died April 26, 1856 in Wayne Co, Tn. He married Elizabeth Amanda Cox on 1808 in Newberry Co SC, daughter of John Cox.

George Whitten, 1787-1856, served as Ranger in the 10th District of Wayne County. He was also one of the commissioners appointed to established the Civil Districts in Wayne County in 1836. I have heard that he also was a justice of the peace, but no record of that has survived. I have not record of George serving in the military, although his brothers, Joel and Jonathan both had military service either during or after the War of 1812.

George Whitten, b. 1787, and family moved from Newberry Co., SC to Warren Co., TN probably in late 1817 or 1818. My gg-grandfather Joel S. stated he was born in SC in 1817, while Jonathan M. Whitten, b. 1819, was born in Tennessee. George and his brother John Whitten both are listed on the 1820 Warren Co., TN census. They remained in Warren Co., TN probably until 1824/5 when they moved to Lauderdale Co., AL, then in 1828/9 to Wayne Co., TN.

GEORGE WHITTEN died Wayne Co., Tenn., April 27, 1856; born S.C., 1787

November 3, 1853 ELIZABETH WHITTEN died in residence of her son, David C. Whitten, August 4, 1853 in her 66th year; native of S.C.; md George Whitten, May 26, 1808; moved to Wayne Co., Tenn. 1818.
