The Long Clan

 		This project started with the discovery of an old family Bible belonging to Nancy Maria Candler and a handwritten list of family by Leola Devore.
Nancy was my Great Grandmother. Leola was my Grandmother.
Since the day I lost my mind and decided to learn the family history and lineage, it has been quite exciting...and frustrating.
While still in it's infancy, this labor of hopeless proportions is taking shape. I really have only started and am still learning how to negotiate the bizzare world of geneaolgy.
While everything I have listed is documented,any information listed here should not be considered accurate at this time.

  • The Bible Page That Started My Quest (744 KB)
    Marriage page from Nancy Maria Candler's Bible. It shows she married Andrew Porter Devore on November 26, !879 at the family home of Reverand Elizah Grubb who performed the ceremony. A simple Google search revealed that Grubb was quite a character.
  • Circa 1906 Candler-Boaz-Rayl Family Reunion (462 KB)
    From Leola Devore Johnson's family photos. This was a family reunion in Ohio in 1906(?). Leola is the little girl with "Leola" written on her. Below her is Nancy Candler-Devore. Circled is Susannah Rayl-Candler. I've been told Asa Griggs Candler was at this reunion. Asa was the founder of Coca-Cola.

    Joseph C. Johnson served in France in WWI.
  • Leola Gail Johnson-Age 4months (167 KB)
    Her first picture, taken in 1901 at the age of 4 months. It would be a few more years before another wwas taken.
