The first reported, "MRS. STUART T. THOMPSON DIED AT HER/HOME NEAR LEXINGTON/THIS MORNING---

Mrs. Isabel Dunlap Sterrett Thompson, wife of Mr. Stuart T. Thompson, died at her home four miles north of Lexington this morning at 3:00 o'clock. She had been in bad health for some time. Her illness became alarming a fortnight ago.

Mrs. Thompson was born in the locality where she died. She was a daughter of James Reid Sterrett and Rebecca Alexander Willson both of this county, and was born August 10, 1851. There survive her two daughters, Mrs. Sterrett Miller wife of Ellis L. Miller of Decatur, and Mrs. Mary Tate Brady wife of Douglas E. Brady of Buffalo Forge. Of her father's family one member survives her, former Sheriff Thomas A. Sterrett. Mrs. Laura Sterrett of Richmond arrived early in the week and was present at Mrs. Thompson's death. Mrs. Thompson had been from early youth a communicant of the Old Stone church at Timber Ridge. She will be buried in the churchyard there tomorrow afternoon. The funeral service will take place from the church at 2:00 o'clock."

The second newspaper report is signed by J. R. Sterrett who at one time worked for the Lexington, Rockbridge County, Virginia newspaper. "MRS. ISABELLE DUNLAP THOMPSON---

Mrs. Isabelle Dunlap Thompson died at her home four miles north of Lexington, Rockbridge County, Virginia at 3 o'clock on the morning of June27, 1921.

Although somewhat frail in general health, she had for the past two years been a great sufferer from cancer, and while she received the latest treatment for this malady, it was of no avail, and finally, after suffering much pain, she passed away on the above date.

Mrs. Thompson was the daughter of James Reid Sterrett and Rebecca Alexander Wilson, both of Rockbridge County, Virginia, and was born August 10, 1851, four miles north of Lexington, Rockbridge County, Virginia, at Oakley, the large plantation of her father, a part of which she inherited, and upon which she lived her entire life.

In 1876 she was married to her surviving husband, Stuart T. Thompson. The devotion of this couple through all the years was indeed most beautiful, the love and affection for each other being like that of youthful lovers.

Of this union two children survive, Mrs. Sterrett Miller and Mrs. Tate Brady, several children having died in infancy.

Mrs. Thompson received her early education in the private schools, as they existed in Virginia after the close of the Civil War, and the Mary Baldwin Seminary, Staunton.

She was a woman of strong mind, and kept in touch with questions that affected State and nation, and was good authority on the family histories of the early settlers of Rockbridge and Augusta Counties.

She came of a long line of Scotch-Irish ancestry, and in early girlhood accepted Christ as her Saviour, and united with Timber Ridge Presbyterian church, in which she retained her membership until her death. While her life was a quiet and unostentatious one, yet its influence for God and right throughout the community and among her "kith and kin" was immeasurable. She leaves to her children and grandchildren a rich heritage.

She was the only sister of six brothers, all of whom, save one, Thomas A. Sterrett, have preceded her to that better land. To these brothers and their children she was a mother and counselor, one whose judgment was always good, whose guiding hand could be depended upon in any emergency, and while by the younger ones her true worth may not be realized, yet by the older ones she will be greatly missed.

Her funeral was preached by Rev. Cochran Preston in the church-yard under God's own canopy, and her body was tenderly laid to rest "neath the shadow of the Old Stone church close by the side of her loved ones, and where here ancestors for generations have been buried, there to wait the resurrection morn. J. R. Sterrett"
