Henry Miller II, the oldest son of Henry Miller I, was born 4 January 1759 in Pennsylvania probably Berks County. His name is recorded in list of the children of Henry and Susanna Miller, in the Hebron Church Birth Register.

In Deed Book M, page 342, Culpeper County, there is recorded a gift of 580 acres from Henry Miller I to son Henry Miller II on 21 March 1795. On that property in Rappahannock County (formed from Culpeper County) near Washington, Virginia, the home "Sunnyside" was built, it is not known if Henry I or Henry II built, the firs house. That house burned, it's said to have been burned by Indians. (Because there was a threat from the Indians, a story is told that to people had to always go the spring, one to carry the water and one to carry the gun for protection.) A report states that in the early 1980's, "Sunnyside" is well preserved and was occupied by the family of a great-great-grandson of Henry Miller II, Frank Downing Wood, Jr. The house was built in three stages: first part of logs, with a stairway to the second floor rooms, then an addition of a stone kitchen with large stone chimney. The third addition was frame weatherboarded with a separate stairway. A partition was built between the stairways. Here enters a German superstition: If doors are cut after a house is built, someone will die.

Henry Miller II married his first wife, Achsah Warner of Frederick County, Virginia, USA, on 14 May 1782. (The record can be found in Winchester, Virginia). Henry II and Achsah had nine children. Ashsah died sometime after the birth of their last child Aylett, who was born in July 1804. Prior to 16 September 1810, Henry II married for a second time, to Margaret also called "Peggy". (Margaret's maiden name unknown. The exact date of this marriage unknown. It was believed that she had been the housekeeper). There were no children by this second marriage.

In the Virginia State Library, in Richmond, there is the record of a Henry Miller who served in the Revolutionary war. He served under Major John Connolly, in what was called as "Dunmore's War". The payroll record was for 191 days, amount due 14 pounds, 6 shillings, 6 pence. (Reference, Major Connolly's payroll, Pittsburgh, 1775). It could be that this is Henry Miller I, since there were different officers submitting the payrolls for Henry Miller. Henry Miller II, however would have been old enough to serve at the same time of his father's enlistment.

In 1749 George Washington, at age 17, was commissioned to survey part of the land owned by Richard Jackson. This survey was for the town, later be named Washington, Virginia. Richard Jackson so admired General George Washington, he named the town Washington, long before Washington, D. C., our Capital City was named.

Henry Miller II died at his home "Sunnyside" 7 January 1833. Margaret died in 1833, probably in early March because a "memorandum" of her possessions was returned 31 March 1833. (Will Book N, page 25). Henry was buried in the old graveyard in Washington, Virginia that later was destroyed to build a road.

At this point in the history, there is a very interesting connection between the Miller and Jackson Families in the area of Rappahannock County, Virginia. Two sons of Henry II married sisters. Jane Jackson (our great-great-great-grandmother) and Abigail Jackson were daughters of Richard Jackson. The immigrant brothers Richard and Andrew Jackson came to America from Ulster County, Ireland, midway through the 18th century and first lived in Pennsylvania. Richard came from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to live in the farming area of Rappahannock, County, Virginia. Richard's brother Andrew traveled to the border of North and South Carolina, where he made his home, in the Waxhaws District, New Lancaster County, South Carolina.

Richard's brother Andrew was the father of our 7th president of the United States, thus Richard Jackson was the uncle of President Andrew Jackson, known as "Old Hickory". President Andrew Jackson (term 1829-1837) was born in New Lancaster County, South Carolina, but later lived the remainder of his life in Tennessee, at his home "The Hermitage".

John Miller II was the second son of Henry II and Ashsah (Warner) Miller. He was born 9 January 1785, at "Sunnyside", Rappahannock County, Virginia.

John Miller II married Jane Jackson of Rappahannock County, Virginia, USA on 29 February 1812. Jane was born 9 February 1797. Jane Jackson's father, Richard Jackson, was the uncle of the 7th President Andrew Jackson. David Miller a brother on John II married Jane's sister Abigail Jackson.

"Pleasant View", the old Jackson home in Rappahannock County, Virginia, USA, became the home of John II and Jane Miller. They had eight children.

John Miller II died on 27 October 1831, two months before the birth of their son David Darius Miller. It was probably at "Pleasant View "that he died. Jane died 1 August 1841.

There is little to find on John Miller II. While rereading on John II there was a reference which gave him the title D. D. M. This could mean that at sometime he became a Doctor of Dental Medicine.

January 4, 1759 -- January 7, 1833

On May 14, 1782, Henry Miller II married Achsah Warner of Frederick County, Virginia, with John Montgomery officiating. (Record, Winchester). Achsah was born about 1762. Because the name "Peggy, his wife", appears occasionally in the Henry Miller II deeds, it was thought that Achsah might have been known as Margaret or Peggy. However, older members of the family claim that Achsah was Henry's first wife, and that sometime after her death he married as his second and last wife, Margaret, sometimes known as Peggy. All, the children, however, were of Henry's first marriage. Margaret is believed to have been his housekeeper.

Achsah's death date is unknown. Her youngest child, Aylett, was born on July 4, 1804. A deed recorded in Deed Book EE, dated November 16, 1810, mentions "Peggy, his wife". Thus, sometime between these two dates Achsah must have died, and Henry Miller II must have made his second marriage. Achsah's name does not seem to appear on any deed - often Henry's name appears alone even during Achsah's known lifetime.

Margaret's birth date is unknown. She died probably in March, 1833, about two months after her husband's death, since her memorandum of possessions was returned March 31, 1833. There was on the list 1 bedstead and furniture, 1 horse, 1 cow and calf and 1 Negro girl, value $395. (Will book N, page 25).

The will book in which Henry Miller II's will was recorded in Culpeper County was lost during the war of 1861-65. He died January 7, 1833, and was buried in the old graveyard at Washington, Virginia, under a big honey-locust tree. His tombstone and that of his son, John, were standing in 1896, and fragments of them in 1921. Now, however, both stones are gone, for a road has been built through that part of the cemetery.

This may be the Henry Miller who served in the Revolution under Major John Connolly for 191 days; amount due, 14 pounds, 6 shillings, 6 pence. (Ref. Maj. John Connolly's payroll - Pittsburgh, 1775 - Virginia State Library.)
