Arnold Alexander Family "Thomas Alexander (son of Archibald Alexander b. in 1610) was b. in Scotland in 1630.Thomas The Royalist as being descended from John of Tarbert and Thomas’s father being Archibald Alexander. John of Tarbert was The John Alexander found early in Eredy, Ireland. A John Alexander was deeded land in Eredy in 1610. Is it a coincidence that The John Alexander of Virginia who first came to Accomak and then to Stafford County Va named his homestead in Virginia Caledon Unknown He went, with his 2 brothers, Strong and William, to Ireland in 1652 for distaste of The Rump Parliament of Cromwell. They were intensely Presbyterian but loyal to The Catholic Stuarts, being blood kinsmen. Thomas had a son William, and "a daughter who married Joseph Parks."
A Record of John E.Alexander "The ALEXANDERS OF PRINCETON.--This justly celebrated Family is too well known to need an extended notice here. What follows is derived from The "Life of Archibald Alexander, D.D.," by his son, James W. Alexander, D.D.
Thomas Alexander removed from Scotland and settled in Ireland, near Londonderry, whence three of his sons, Archibald, Robert, and another whose name is not given, emigrated to America about The year 1736, and settled(*) first near Norristown, on The Schuylkill, Pa. Two years afterwards Archibald, with his son William, born on The Schuylkill, moved to Rockbridge County, Va, and were among The earliest settlers in that section, most of whom were Scotch-Irish Presbyterians. William married Ann Reed, The daughter of a wealthy landholder of The same colony, and became The father of Archibald in 1772, who became The father of The Princeton Family, and The first Professor of Theology in Princeton Seminary. Archibald Alexander was licensed to preach in 1791 and was for a few years pastor of two churches in his native region, then President of Hampden Sydney College, Virginia, USA, until 1806.
In 1802 he married Miss Jannette, daughter of The Rev. James Waddel, of Louisa County, Va., The blind preacher, whose eloquence is so eloquently described by by William Wirt in "The British Spy." In 1806 The Rev. Archibald Alexander became pastor of The Old Pine Street Presbyterian church in Philadelphia. From this he was called by The General Assembly in 1812 to become The founder and first Professor in Princeton Seminary. The next year Dr. Miller was associated with him, next Dr. Hodge, and finally, Dr. Joseph Addison Alexander, his son, forming a faculty of The most distinguished scholars and Theological Professors that have appeared in The Presbyterian Church of America. Dr. Archibald Alexander died and was buried at Princeton, leaving a Family of six sons and one daughter.
(*) Biography of Dr. Alexander by his son. But Foote, in his sketches of Virginia, says that The first settlement was near Nottingham, Pa, whence The first Archibald emigrated to Virginia in 1747.Three of his sons, J. Addison, James W., and Samuel D., became clergymen, and The whole Family has been noted for talents and attainments. The writer esteems it a special favor of God that during three years he was permitted to sit as a learner at The feet of that truly great and good man whose memory he will ever cherish with sincere love and profound respect. Like The ancestor of our own Family, The ancestor of Dr. Alexander came first from Scotland to Ireland, and both ancestors came from nearly The same place in Ireland, and in The same year, 1736, to America. In this country The families have been entirely distinct.

Helen " Archibald b. in Taghboyne, March. Elizabeth McKay b. ca 1627. They had William b. 1676 in Donegal, Ireland. d. 1749 Augusta County Va. m first Esther Beard and had Archibald b. February 4 1708 and Robert b 1710 d. 1787 and with second wife Jean McNutt had William b. 1712 and Peter b 1714 d. Londonderry , Ireland, Joseph b. ca 1640, John 1642 and James ca 1646.

War; m. ca 1765 to SUSAN McClung, b. 1746 Augusta County; d. 1814, Rockbridge County Known Issue: William Jr., James, and Robert.
MacAlister of The Clan MacAlister " Archibald(2) an elder in Taghboyne, married Elizabeth MacKay. Their son William fathered Archibald who went to America in 1736 and married Margaret Parkes and 2nd Marg. McClure in 1757. Son William(4) is thought to be father of seven sons.
