Robert Douglas Starret (b. June 11, 1789, d. December 20, 1861)

Robert Douglas Starret (son of John Douglas Starret and Ann Reid)^{743, 743} was born June 11, 1789 in Gortree Hill, Glendermott Parish, County Londonderry, Province Ulster, Northern Ireland^{743, 743}, and died December 20, 1861 in "Bells Valley" Farm on Little Calf Pasture River, Rockbridge County, Virginia, USA^{743, 743, 743, 743}. He married Isabella Dunlap on December 12, 1818 in Summerdean, Augusta County, Virginia, USA, daughter of Robert Dunlap and Margaret Kerr.

Robert Starret (Sterrett) was buried in the Lebanon Presbyterian Church old cemetery near Craigsville, Augusta County, Virginia, USA on the Augusta/Rockbridge Counties line, by his parents.

Robert inherited the farm on Little Calfpasture in Bells Valley and added to it through purchases and this became the "home place" for most of the family.

Robert became a very wealthy man and was for a time acting Sheriff of Rockbridge County, Virginia, USA. His Judgment of value of real estate was held in high esteem by the Judges of the County Court.

In his earlier life he signed his name "Starret" but when he became Sheriff his signature was "Robert Sterrett".

My father, Robert Sterrett, second son of John and Ann Sterrett, was born in the north of Ireland in sight of Londonderry in 1788 or 1789; and died Dec. 20, 1861. My mother Isabella Sterrett, a daughter of Robert Dunlap and Margaret (Kerr) Dunlap, was born Oct. 20, 1794; and died about the first of April 1886. They were married at the old homestead of her father, four miles north-west of Middlebrook, Augusta County, Virginia, USA. They were buried in the old graveyard about on-half mile above Lebanon Church and three and one-half miles from where they lived. I cannot give any lengthened account of my father and mother. For standing as I do in the relation of a son to them, I feel I am stopped by reasons of delicacy.
