He served his township as councillor and Deputy-reeve for some years. He was very active in the Agricultural Society and Plowman's Association.
Farmer John passed to his great Reward in 1939.

John was active in County politics, serving for some time as a municipal Councillor. He also established a reputation as one of Egremont Townships better known poets.
