In the war of 1812--1814 between England and the United States he was also in the battle of Queenston Heights on October 13 1812, near Niagara Falls. They settled in Oxford County, Upper Canada in 1822. The assessment Roll of 1822 contains the name of William Shaw. He was given a grant of land and they lived near Lakeside, East Nissouri Township, Oxford County. He was also in the Rebellion of 1837 and he was against the rebels. They are buried in the Christ Anglican Cemetery in Lakeside.

Sarah Hoodless, born April 13 1817, she married George Skelton, born in August 1822. They were married in Cumberland, likely at Sebergham. It appears they emigrated to Canada about 1847 or before, settling in the Woodstock area. On November 5 1849, Sarah and George Skelton bought their first land in Canada. It was 50 acres, the North Half of the West Half of Lot # 10, Concession # 12, East Zorra Township, Oxford County. This farm was three miles north of Woodstock, on # 59 Highway. They sold this 50 acres on February 25 1854. Their two eldest daughters, Anne, born May 1851 and Sarah, born March 8 1853 were born on this farm. We don't know where they lived for the next two years. On May 10 1856, Sarah and George Skelton bought 100 acres, being the East Half of Lot # 32, Concession # 11, East Zorra Township, Oxford County. This farm was two miles south of Tavistock, on # 59 Highway. Three more daughters were born on this farm (names listed on the Family Page).

George Skelton died September 17 1891, Sarah (Hoodless) Skelton, died April 26 1898, both were buried in the Anglican Cemetery, at Woodstock.

On March 22 1882 he married Margaret Jane Skelton, born May 16 1858, on the East Half of Lot # 32, Concession # 11, East Zorra Township, Oxford County. After their marriage they lived on the East Half of Lot # 24 Concession # 11, East Zorra Township, Oxford County. Their four children are listed in the Family Page.

Margaret Jane (Skelton) Rowe, b 1858, died June 9 1892. She was buried in the Baptist Cemetery, on Cassel Road, one mile north of Hickson, Ontario. Parents: George Skelton and Sarah Hoodless.
