Widow of Rev. Aquila Lucas Dies in London Township

Mrs. Harriet Lucas, widow of Rev. Aguila Lucas, died yesterday at the family residence on concession 4 of London Township. She was in her 69th year. Mrs. and the late Rev. Aquila Lucas were widely known throughout Western Ontario. Rev. Mr. Lucas died in September 1926.
Surviving is a large family. Sone are Albert and Harold Lucas, market gardeners, of London Township; Frank of Toronto, Robert of Gary, Indiana and John of Wallace, Idaho. Daughters are, Mrs E.W. Halphenny of Lansing, Michigan; Mrs J Bulivant and Miss Ruth Lucas, of London; Mrs Thomas Layfield , of Missoula, Montana; Mrs. Arthur Bussard, of Hamilton, Montana and Mrs. A.F. Baker of Acadia, N. S.
Funeral services it is expected, will be conducted at the family residence to-morrow afternoon by Rev. J.F. Chapman, pastor of Empress Avenue United Church.
Parents: Robert Bridges and Emma Bridges.

Mrs. Richard Lucas dies after a Long Illness
After a long and painful illness, Mrs. Richard Lucas passed away last Saturday, March 8, at the family residence, Salina Street. She had been confined to her room for many months, and although there was little hope for her recovery at any time during her illness, she bore her suffering with great patience and cheerfulness.
The deceased lady's maiden name was Elisabeth Bristow. She was born in Lincolnshire, England, sixty years ago. Along with her husband and family she came to St. Marys direct from the old country, over a quarter of a century since.
Besides her husband she leaves a family of five sons and five daughters to mourn her loss. The sons are Albert and Richard, London: George, Detroit, Mich.; William, St. Marys and John, who is a member of Baden-Powell's Constabulary Force in South Africa The daughters are Mrs. William Reid, of London; Mrs D. Kelly and Mrs. P. Mitchell, St. Marys, and Misses Rose and Agnes at home.
Mrs. Lucas was an estimable woman, loved by her family, and held in high esteem by a host of friends. She was a member of the Baptist Church. The funeral took place on Tuesday, March 11, the service being conducted by the Rev. George Chapman. The pallbearers were the deceased lady's four sons, Albert, Richard, George and William, and her two sons-in-law, Messrs. William Stewart (do they mean Reid), GTR., London, and Mr. P. Mitchell, St. Marys.
Mr. Lucas and the members of his family will have the sincere sympathy of the community in their heavy bereavement.

Chester Alexander Bruce, 76, of 61 Cawston St., Stratford, died Monday at the Rehabilitation and Extended Care Unit of the Stratford General Hospital.
He was born at New Rockland, Que., son of the Late Mr. and Mrs. Donald Bruce and has been a Stratford resident for the past 35 years.
He was a boilermaker's helper at the CNR for many years and following that on staff of the Stratford General Hospital for seven years, retiring nine years ago. He was a member of the Rebecca Street Gospel Hall.
He was predeceased by his first wife, the former Ethel Witty, and later married Catherine Kipfer, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Gordon, of 132 Princess St., one daughter, Mrs. Alan (Elizabeth) Taylor, of Winterhaven Fla., and five step daughters, Mrs. Robert (Shirley) Quehl, Mrs James (Doreen) Patterson, both of Tavistock, Mrs. Glen (Fern) Schaefer, of 303 Cambria St., Mrs. Frank (Sharon) Flanigan of 63 Redford Cres, and Mrs Wayne (Marilyn) Weber, of Waterloo, one sister Stella living in California and three grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a son Dale, in 1964.
Friends will be received at the Heinbuck funeral home 156 Albert St., this evening from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. A service will be held at the funeral home Thursday at 2.p.m. with Mr. Allan Weber officiating. Burial will be in Avondale cemetery.

Dear Edie & Dave,

It was great hearing from you. Yes, I am trying to do the Bruce Family
Tree which involves Fergusons and Gillespies. I am a Bruce descendent.
My father was Gordon Allan Bruce who was the son of John Gillespie
Bruce. John G Bruce was one of the children of Alexander Mitchell Bruce
who married Flora Gillespie. Her parents were Catherine Bell and John
Gillespie. I am sure this is the Catherine Bell you are referring to.

My grandfather, John Gillespie Bruce married Mary Jane Ferguson who was
born on January 21, 1874 in Harriston, Ontario, Canada and died June 28,
1904. My dad was born April 17, 1904 so his mother, Mary Jane did not
live to see her son grow up.

I know that Mary Jane Ferguson had several brothers. Some of the names
I have are: Archie, Neil, Charles, Dan?, and a sister, Maggie. I do not
have the names of Mary Jane's parents, and would love to get more info
on her side of the family. I happen to have an autograph book which
belonged to Mary Jane Ferguson. That is how I happen to know some of
her brother's names. I have a picture of Mary Jane when she was newly
married. Pretty and petite young lady. My only sister was named after
Mary Jane. My dad told me his mother died due to tuberculosis, and when
I was young, he would make me take cod liver oil and run a lot to keep
up my strength.

Yes, I would be very interested in the family info you may have. If you
send me your address, I will be happy to mail anything I might have that
would be of interest to you. I am supposed to be getting a book from
one of my relatives in Park River which will show a lot of the info I am
missing. (Especially on the Ferguson & Gillespie sides).
