Hi, my name is Mary Jane. I am Florence Fischer's sister. I took the
liberty last evening to go into your web site and print out the Ferguson
tree. How wonderful to find so much history and facts. I live in Rapid
City, South Dakota, but am at my daughters home in Denver. Her and her
husband are taking me to Kentucky Saturday. I have a daughter who lives
there, and so I spend my winters with her and her family. I was just in
Montana with Florence and we were looking at a very old autograph book of
Mary Jane Ferguson Bruce's. She was my Grand Mother, and I was named after
her. She died shortly after my Father was born. His name was
Gordon Allen Bruce. His sister Lila Bruce Peterson gave me the book since I
was Mary Jane's name sake. I also named my daughter Mary and she named her
daughter Mary. So many interesting things have now come to light. Mary Jane
was called Jennie by her family, I have a Jennifer, we call Jennie. M.J. had
a brother and Father named Charles, I have a son Mark Charles and my fourth
child is John. We call our daughter Maggie and in the autograph book there
is a page signed your sister Maggie. I cannot find her name in the
descendants, but think that could have been a nickname for one of her
sisters. Also in this book is a beautiful poem from her Uncle Rev. Dan.
Signed also are brothers Neil, Dan, Charles, and sister Sarah. Mary Jane is
buried in Park River, North Dakota. My sis and I just visited her grave site
last spring. In reading over the descendants I find where we are not only
descendants of Alexander Alistair but also his Brother Donald as John married
his cousin Sarah Marrion. I love knowing that the family had a strong
Christian background. I can't began to put into words what all your research
has meant to me, I always wondered where Mary Jane's family were. My Aunt
Lila and my Father were raised in Park River by Mary Jane's husband's family.
My Auntie Lila was the kindest, loving, gentle women I have ever known. She
died a few years ago, and I still miss her every day. My husband Richard
died 8 years ago. I remain a widow, it is to hard to settle for less when
you have had the very best. He left a beautiful legacy, his children. Again
Thank You, Thank you, Thank You. If the autograph book is something you are
interested in let Florence know. By the way the word Groten and Minto are
mentioned in the book.

Olive (Becker) Burtch, born September 6 1799 N. Y. State, was a daughter of Catherine Becker, 1770--1838 and Edee Burtch, b 1757, N Y State, d April 1812, he might be buried near Newport, south of Brantford, Ontario. She died near and was buried in the Innerkip cemetery, Innerkip, Ontario, 'they are my great great great grand parents'.

Edee Burtch, my great great great grandfather was one of first Burtch brothers in Canada. In mid 1700, a David Burtch emigrated from Yorkshire, England, he settled near Albany, in the Mohawk Valley in New York State. About 1799, several of his children and their families emigrated to Canada as United Empire Loyalists. They landed several miles south of Brantford, on the Grand River which they called Burtch's Landing, this is now called Newport. Edee Burtch lived here for years. Edee Burtch was a brother to Zachariah, who in 1800 built the first log dwelling in what is now Woodstock, Ontario.

He was in the King's Royal Regiment, a regiment which was formed in 1776 at Montreal, Canada and disbanded at Quebec, Canada in 1783. He was given a grant of land in Glengarry County, Upper Canada, which is now Ontario.

At this time I am not sure if this is the same Mary but do hope to find more information about her.
Their names seem to be connected with the 'History of the Petworth Emigration Scheme'.

When I look at the 1871 Census of St. Marys C 9938 gp 21 Philip's wife's name is Sarah. At this time I do not know if Mary has died.

Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Vanguard was the scene of a quiet but pretty wedding on July 27th when Elva Arvilla, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Heard became the bride of Lawrence Norman, Ponteix, son of Mr. and Mrs. Norman Catley, Craven, Sask. Rev. W. Portman officiated at the ceremony.
The bride who was given in marriage by her brother Elroy, wore a navy gown with white accessories. Miss Theresa Stapleton of Regina was bridesmaid. The groom was attended by Dale Guy of Moose Jaw.
Following a wedding trip to the States, Mr. and Mrs. Catley will reside in Moose Jaw.
