FRED LUTH, my husband's grandfather, was born in 1876 in Clinton County, Iowa. He was the oldest son of HANS HENRY LUTH and MARGARETHA OHDE LUTH, who both immigrated from Schleswig-Holstein, Prussia (Germany) to Clinton County, Iowa in 1870.
HANS HENRY LUTH, son of FRIEDERICH WILHELM LUTH and CATHARINA DOROTHEA DOHSE, was born in Gadendorf, Schleswig-Holstein, in northern Germany, west of Kiel and close to the Baltic Sea, in 1851. MARGARETHA OHDE LUTH, daughter of JACOB HINRICH OHDE and DOROTHEA BOHRENSEN, was born in Erfde, Schleswig-Holstein, just southeast of Schleswig, Germany in 1857.
HENRY LUTH and MARGARETHA OHDE eventually had nine children--FRED LUTH, as mentioned above, PETER LUTH, ANNA LUTH, HENRY LUTH, JR., GEORGE LUTH, ROSA LUTH, LAURA LUTH, MAX LUTH and AUGUST LUTH. They homesteaded first in Iowa Township, Crawford County, Iowa (from 1880 to 1889) and then ultimately in Schneider Township (by Ravenna), Buffalo County, Nebraska (from 1889 to 1933). Their great grandsons continue to farm their original homestead.
These web pages include ancestors from both their areas in Prussia (Germany) back to the 1700's and, in some cases, the 1600's. Family surnames include: ANDERS, BOHRENSEN, DAU, DOHSE, DOHSEN, EHLERS, GRIMM, KAHL, LASS, LUETH, LUETJE, LUTH, MOELLER, NIPPS, OHDE, SCHOENING/SCHOENINGS, SCHROEDER, STARK, STURM, TAMS and WELCKER. Detailed biographical information for some of these individuals is available upon request as is information on contemporary LUTH and OHDE descendants.
If you find any information that we have in common, please send me an e-mail and I will be happy to send you a GEDCOM file with my data.
