54. Wanona Maxine MENDENHALL ⁽³⁶⁾ was born on 17 Dec 1914 in Portland, Multnomah Co., Oregon. She was adopted in Portland, Multnomah Co., Oregon. ⁽³⁶⁾ Wanona, the daughter of Effie LaBrie and Valdemar Mendenhall, was legally adopted by Wayne David Lyons, and thereafter her legal surname was Lyons. Wanona was briefly "kidnapped" on one occasion by her grandmother, Cora Jane LaBrie, who wanted her removed from the Lyons household for some unknown reason. She was christened "Wanona Gertrude."

Wanona became a Registered Nurse, but not before serious medling by her grandmother, Cora Jane LaBrie. Cora wanted her granddaughter to become a journalist, and disapproved of Wanona's chosen vocation. Secretly she went to the Mother Superior at St. Joseph Hospital in Vancouver, Washington (where Wanona was studying), and spread terrible false stories about Wanona's morals in an attempt to have Wanona dismissed from the program. Cora was so proud of what she had done that she confided to her daughter Clairbell, Wanona's aunt. Clairbell was horrified and immediately told Wanona, who rushed to the hospital to explain to Mother Superior. Mother only laughed. It seems that Effie had anticipated something like this might happen, and had warned Mother Superior well in advance!

She was married to Kenneth POE on 5 Aug 1936 in Aberdeen, Grays Harbor Co., Washington. Wanona Maxine MENDENHALL and Kenneth POE had the following children:

105 i. Lynnda Valerie POE was born on 25 Oct 1941 in Aberdeen, Grays Harbor Co., Washington.⁽³⁸⁾ She died in Jan 1972 in Clatskanie, Oregon.⁽²¹⁾ Lynnda was killed in a motor vehicle accident on her way from home to work.
