Church records show Joe died suddently at the age of 62. Family rumor that he committed killed himself
However this seems doubtful because he ingested lye, probably instead of some type of medicine as lye is extremely painful way to die

From her will, dated Feburary 24, 1931:...."I expressly provide that no part of the income or principal of this fund shall be applied to the benefit of Alma DeVault Latstetter, present wife of my son Joseph W. Latstetter, fromwho he is now living separte and apart. And I further provide that no child , nor descendentof any child, of said Alma DeValult Latstetter, shall take anything under this will....whether or not (Joseph) resumes material relations with his said wife.....It being my intention that neither Alma DeVault Latstetter, nor any of her children or descendents shall take anything under this will" (Harrison Co. Courthouse, Will Book 17, pg 406)

Considered wealthy as her husbands family owned the Latsletter building in Clarksburg
