6. Thomas Lytle Jr. was born on 6 Jun 1797 in McDowell (Burke) County. He appeared on the census in 1870 in McDowell County, NC. Lytle, Thomas 73; Jane 73; John P. 18; Rosa J. 16; Martha 14; George 12; Mary E. 10. He died on 17 Apr 1883 in McDowell County, NC. Thomas acquired seven tracts of land on Catawba River from the heirs of Thomas McEntire. Deed book 4 page 41 of McDowell County shows a deed date of 2-7-1837 to Thomas Lytle from heirs of Thomas McEntire for the sum of $1,000.00.
The will of Thomas Lytle, Jr. was dated 4-1-1878 and probated 5-7-1883. It was recorded in will book 2, page 127, McDowell County, North Carolina.
I give unto Mary E. and Josephine, heirs of my daughter Martha, 600 acres of land, more or less, known as my fathers and J.P. Lytles land adjoining my own.
2nd. I give to Jane White, J.L. Burgin, Louisa Goforth, Martha Burgin, Eliza Settlemyre
Thomas L Burgin, John R. Burgin, George Burgin and Bulow Burgin, heirs of my daughter Susannah, 300 acres of land known as Merritt Burgin Land. Said land to be divided when Bulow Burgin becomes twenty-one.
Third I give unto Thomas Young Lytle, heir of my daughter Mary Louisa, and George Lytle, heir of my son George W. Lytle, land known as Jesse Burgin Land plus another tract got from mother, to George W. when he becomes eighteen.
Forth I give unto Rosa Jane Lytle, Martha Settlemyre, George L. Lytle, Mary E. Lytle, Joseph Hix Lytle, heirs of son Joseph Lytle, land said to contain 800 acres. I give
unto Rosa Jane Lytle and Mary E. Lytle the large black mule named Beck and one cow and a calf a piece, and the household and kitchen furniture and what hogs that I may have at my death and one hundred bushels of corn.

Thomas appeared on 1880 McDowell County Census (Old Fort Township). He was listed as being 83 years old and having his grandchildren George 21, and Rosey 29 living with him.

He was married to Jane McEntire (daughter of Thomas Young Hemphill McEntire and Martha Hemphill) about 1820. Jane McEntire was born on 6 Jan 1797 in McDowell (Burke) County. She died in 1873 in McDowell County, NC. She was also known as Jennie. The following is a letter from Joseph A. McEntire and wife, Mary Elizabeth to Martha Jane and George Williamson. (Mary Elizabeth was Martha Jane's aunt and Jane McEntire Lytle's sister.) The Letter:

February 7, 1847
Dear Nephew and Niece,
After my respects to you I attempt to drop you a line to inform you that I am well and family and friends, I hope this may find you and yours enjoying the same blessings.
I received your welcome but sorrowful news that David was dead. I sympathize with you for I have had the trial and I know it is a hard one to get over. The ties of nature are so strong we ought to reconcile it to our feelings that the will of the Lord be done and not ours, for we see that death hath no respect to persons. The young, middle aged and aged die. A true proverb is "the young may die the old must". I hope that we all have friends in a better world that sickness cannot come to us, But let us try to live a holy life that when we are done with things and times of this world that we may all meet where parting will be no more.
I should have written before now, the coldness of the weather. You can tell Jane that Thomas and Joseph Lytle and uncle Thomas's oldest son John have just left. They were out looking at the country and they all appeared well satisfied with our country. Lytle looked at several places and priced them, he looked at the Coopers a mile from my house. That is his choice and in all probability he will buy if he can make sale of his land he left here for that purpose and is to be out here in March again and if he sells he will buy out Cooper. You can tell Jane that I shall look for her and you out this summer and you can say to all the friends in Carolina we are well except Uncle James, his legs swell at times. I will close my unconnected lines Elizabeth joins with me in giving our respects to the Major and Rosy and family, Leonard and family, Clifton and family and accept our love to yourself and babe those from yours with due respect.

child36 ix. John Patillo Lytle was born in 1837 in McDowell County, NC. He died before 1860.
child37 x. Rebecca Rosannah Lytle was born about 1840. She was baptized on 18 Sep 1842 in Siloam Church, Old Fort, NC. She died in childhood.
