52. John M. Lytle was born on 11 May 1840. He died on 13 Dec 1900. John Mills Lytle lived in Henderson County, NC where he enlisted, at age 21 on 7-1-1861, in The War Between The States. He mustered in as private, and was present or accounted for until he was wounded in a battle below Richmond, Virginia, in the summer of 1862. The battle was not reported at the time. He returned to duty prior to March 1, 1863 and was promoted to Corporal soon afterwards. He was promoted to Sergeant on 9-7-1864 and was present or accounted for through 12-1-1864. He was in Company " I", 16th Regiment, NC Troops.

He was married to Nancy Amanda Osborn on 24 Oct 1865 in Henderson County, NC. They appeared on the 1880 Henderson County Census: Lytle, John 40; Amanda 41; Ida 13; Rebecca 12; James 10; William 8; John 6; Fanny 4; Zebulon 2; Ellen 9/12. Nancy Amanda Osborn was born on 1 Jan 1838. She died on 11 Nov 1896. John M. Lytle and Nancy Amanda Osborn had the following children:

child213 ii. Margaret Rebecca Lytle was born on 9 Dec 1867. She died on 24 May 1907.

child215 iv. James Hampton Lytle was born on 3 Apr 1870. He died on 19 Jul 1904. He served in the military Company F First NC Infantry in Spanish American War.

child217 vi. John Belton Lytle was born on 30 Dec 1873. He died on 9 Jun 1900.
