32. George Watson Lytle
was born on Feb 17 1829. He appeared on the census in 1860 in McDowell
County, NC. Lytle, GW age 30 was living with brother John age 23. He died on
May 17 1864.
George Watson Lytle died during the Civil War. He served as Lieutenant and Captain,
Company "A", 49th Regiment, CSA. He was born in McDowell County where
he resided as a farmer prior to enlisting in McDowell County at age 33. Elected
First Lieutenant on 2-15-1862, promoted to Captain on 6-19-62. He was reported,
present or accounted for, from Nov. 62 to Dec. 63. He was wounded at or near
Drewey's Bluff, VA. 5-16-64, hospitalized at Richmond, VA. where he died on or
about 5-17-1964 of wounds.
He was married to Martha Matilda Hemphill (daughter of
Thomas McEntire Hemphill and Margaret Hemphill) on Nov 26
1861. Martha Matilda Hemphill was born on May 15 1837
in Burke County, NC. She appeared on the census in 1870 in McDowell County,
NC. Lytle, Martha 32; George 7; and Rebecca Lytle 14 (Dom. Servant) She died
on Nov 7 1917. George Watson Lytle and Martha Matilda Hemphill had the following
