Stella Tate graduated from Appalachian State Teachers College, Boone, NC and taught in McDowell County Schools.

She was married to Monroe Underwood Marlowe on Jul 10 1947. Monroe Underwood Marlowe was born on Apr 24 1913. Stella Lillian Tate and Monroe Underwood Marlowe had the following children:
