17. Leander Perkins Lytle was born about 1814 in McDowell (Burke) County. He appeared on the census in 1850 in Buncombe County, NC. House #117) Lytle, Leander Perkins 34; Thomas Young 7. He appeared on the census in 1860 in Buncombe County, NC. Lytle, Leander 45; Thomas 17. Later, they moved back to McDowell County. He died on Mar 2 1903 in McDowell County, NC. He was buried in Bethel Cemetery, Old Fort, NC. He was a member of Tabernacle Methodist Church while living in Black Mountain. Leander and his wife Mary Louise were first cousins. Mary Louise died at age twenty when Thomas (her son) was a baby. Leander lived to be ninety years old but never remarried. He lived with his son, Thomas, in his later years. The tax scroll for Swannanoa in 1858 list Leander as owner of 150 acres of land valued at $1,000.
He was married to Mary Louise Lytle (daughter of
Thomas Lytle Jr. and Jane McEntire) in 1842 in Buncombe
County, NC. They appeared on the McDowell County Census in 1850 and 1860 as
follows:

Thomas and Jane lived in the Crooked Creek Community of McDowell County
and are buried at Campground Cemetery, Old Fort, NC. Mary
Louise Lytle was born on Aug 5 1823. She died in 1843. Leander Perkins
