Services for Dr. Raymond Alfred Lytle, 77, will be held 10 A.M. Saturday at First Baptist Church, Boyce Chapel, with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be 6-8 tonight at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel.
Dr. Lytle died Wednesday, April 2, 1997. Born in Spartanburg, he was a son of the late Fred Lester and Emma Hill Lytle. In 1940, he graduated from Wofford College with a BS degree in mathematics. He received his master's degree from the University of Virginia in 1946 and his Ph.D. from the University of Georgia in 1955. He taught at the University of South Carolina for forty years and was founder of Pi Mu Epsilon. He retired in 1986 as an associate professor. Dr. Lytle was a member, deacon, and Sunday school teacher at First Baptist Church and faithfully attended prayer breakfasts and helped in the soup kitchen.
Surviving are his wife, Margaret Estelle Burgess Lytle; sons, Raymond A. Lytle Jr. of Roswell, Georgia, and Frederick B. Lytle of Columbia; Daughters, Cynthia L. Cato of Burke, Virginia and Mary M. Lytle of Columbia; aunt, Ruth L Dean of Newberry; grandchildren, Lara Lytle Spradley, John David Lytle, Anthony Derbin Cato, Meredith Ayra Cato, Jennifer Marie Lytle, and Melanie Anne Lytle; and great-grand daughter, Caitlin Elizabeth Spradley.

He was married to Margaret Burgess on Jun 25 1944. Margaret Burgess was born on Jan 25 1919. Dr. Raymond Alfred Lytle and Margaret Burgess had the following children:
