73. John Mills Lytle was born on Jan 5 1847 in McDowell County, NC. He appeared on the census in 1880 in McDowell County, NC. Crooked Creek Township, House #82: Lytle, John 33; Callie 32; Maggie Y. 7; Mary D. 5; Mattie M. 2. They were living next door to John's father. He appeared on the census on Jan 19 1920 in Green County, Arkansas. Lytle, John M. 75; Mary 44 (daughter); Mary Lou 66 (sister). He died on Jun 5 1931 in Paragould, Arkansas. He was buried in Linwood Cemetery, Greene County, Arkansas. In 1916 John M. Lytle and his family were living at 400 East Court, Paragould, Arkansas. John's occupation is listed in the City Directory as "Timber man". Misses Mary and Martha Lytle were living in the same household. Martha was a school teacher at West Side School and Mary was a Clerk for the Bertig Store at this time.

The following is the Obituary of John as written in "Paragould Daily Press" Saturday, June 6, 1931: Funeral Services of John M. Lytle age 84, who died at 1:35 yesterday morning at his home, 400 East Court Street, following an illness of 12 weeks due to a gangrenous condition of his left foot, will the conducted at Three o'clock tomorrow afternoon from the First Methodist Church of this city and burial will be made in Linwood Cemetery. The Rev. W.C. Davidson Pastor of the First Methodist Church will officiate. The Masons also will assist in the Funeral Services. The Active Pall Bearers will be L.U. (Dolph) Stedman, Jack Wyatt, Lawrence Maddox, Homer T. Moore, Karl Potter and Herbert Lambert.
Mr. Lytle, who was a native of North Carolina, had been a resident of this City 42 years. He retired about 15 years ago from the timber buying business. He was a Confederate veteran.
Deceased is survived by two daughters, one son, one sister, one half sister and two grandsons.

He was married to Martha Caldonia Burgin (daughter of Benjamin "Logan" Burgin and Jane Caroline Dysart) on Apr 12 1870 in McDowell County, NC. Martha Caldonia Burgin was born on May 17 1848 in McDowell County, NC. She died on Nov 23 1908 in Paragould, Arkansas. She was buried in Linwood Cemetery, Greene County, Arkansas. John Mills Lytle and Martha Caldonia Burgin had the following children:

child278 i. Margaret Y. Lytle was born on Jan 22 1872. She died. Margaret died while giving birth to her first child.
child279 ii. Mary D. Lytle was born on May 16 1874. She died on Nov 19 1961. Mary was a school teacher in Paragould, Arkansas. She never married.

Miss Mary D. Lytle, 87 died at 3 A.M. Sunday, Nov. 19 at the Community Hospital where she had been a patient for the past four days.
A native of Old Fort, NC she had been a long time resident of Paragould, residing at 411 E. Emerson St.
Funeral services were held at 3 P.M. today at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. T.T. McNeil officiating. Burial under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home, was in Linwood Cemetery.
Survivors include a sister, Miss Martha M. Lytle of Paragould.
child280 iii. Martha Mills Lytle was born on Dec 22 1877 in McDowell County, NC. She died on Oct 13 1962 in Paragould, Arkansas. Funeral services for Miss Martha M. Lytle, 84, 411 East Emerson, who died Saturday at the Newberry Nursing Home, were conducted at 2 P.M. today in the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. T.T. McNeal. Burial was in Linwood Cemetery. Miss Lytle was a native of Old Fort, North Carolina and a retired school teacher. Survivors include two nephews. Martha never married. She and her sister Mary lived with their brother Charles.
