Notes for A
LEX CHISHOLM:
From "The MacLeans of Duart in Scotland":

In the year 1818 Alex Chisholm and his wife Isabel and their family emigrated from Strathglass, Scotland to Antigonish, Nova Scotia. They took up land at Black River (now known as Black Avon)
at the farm where their great grandson, Colin Chisholm (brother of John A. Chisholm) would later live out his years. They had a family of 6 children. Their brave start in building a home, clearing, and cultivating the land was saddened by the death of Alex just 4 years after their arrival. Isabel and her children courageously strove to provide a living under great difficulties in their primeval new home of Canada.
It was a case of facing life with great determination.

Notes for I
SABEL CHISHOLM:
Mary, the eldest daughter, married Alex Grant at Calcedonia Mills, about four miles distant by a trail through the woods. Isabel set out one afternoon in winter to attend her daughter, who was soon to be confined (an old figure of speech meaning she was close to giving birth). The trail was covered in snow and difficult to follow, and she lost her sense of direction and perished of exposure in the woods.
