11. Alexander McPherson MALCOLM Sr. was born on Nov 25 1876 in Southmuir, Kerriemuir, Angus, Scotland. Recorded, # 177, Dec 9 1876 by Alex Fraser, Asst Registrar, Kerriemuir. He immigrated about 1900. He was naturalized on Mar 31 1925. Number 2117947. He died on Jul 8 1959 in Huntington, Suffolk County, Long Island, NY. He was buried in Huntington Rural Cemetery, New York Avenue, Huntington, NY. A foreman for Davis Brown, plastering contractor, on the following jobs:

New York City: Riverside Church, Fordham University, Standard Oil Building
Albany, NY: Court House and Post Office
New City, NY: Court House
Long Island, NY: various estate homes
Newport, RI: various estate homes
Concord, NH: Capitol
Hartford, CT: Travelers Insurance Tower, Railroad Station, Bushnell Library

He was a member of Clan MacDuff. (Why?)
He was a member of Plasterers and Cement Masons Union, Local 60, NY.

His home at 42-13 79th Street, Elmhurst, NY, earlier had the address 4-A 22nd Street. He contracted its construction in 1916.

He was married to Jessie Dawn MACFARLANE (daughter of William Lindsay MACFARLANE and Elizabeth DUNCAN) on Oct 1 1906 in NYC, Borough of Manhattan, NY. Jessie Dawn MACFARLANE was born on Jun 1 1879 in Meadows Cottar houses, Oathlaw Parish, Scotland. Recorded June 21 1879, #9, George Stuart, Registrar. She immigrated on Oct 1 1906. I'm told that my grandfather picked her up at the dock, brought her to a minister's home in upper Manhattan where they were married, after which they travelled to his rent in Queens where she cooked supper that night! In my mother's words, "He found her sitting on her trunk and holding his stuffed prize pheasant in its cage."

I understand that somehow she was able to dock directly without passing through Ellis Island. She died on Jan 29 1949 in Huntington, Suffolk County, Long Island, NY. She was buried in Huntington, NY. "She was a devoted mother and homemaker. Enjoyed doing needlework and crocheting. Was an excellent cook."
