Thomas Parkin spent his youth on a farm in the Thorpe area within the Barnby Dun parish. H e was fourteen years old when his father died and left him, his mother and three siblings t o run the farm on their own. After Thomas's marriage to Mary Lee, he moved to the town of Dod worth within the Silkstone parish. It is unknown what his profession was or why he moved the re. After the birth of his first child Mary, Thomas returned to Hatfield, the place his wif e as from, to have Mary christened. Their second child, William, was christened in Silksto ne, there was no special trip back to Hatfield. Thomas bought the Thrope Grange Farm. whic h lies within the Owston parish. In all the Owston christening records of his children, Thom as Parkin is listed as a farmer. Thomas lived within a mile of his two brothers who also wer e farmers. John Parkin lived on Owston Grange farm and William Parkin lived at Moss Villa . Thomas also had a close association with his two brothers-in-law, John Lee and Henry Walke r. The association was close enough that they were the executors of his will. After the deat h of his wife Mary, Thomas married a widow from Wath-upon-Dearne. He is listed with his seco nd wife Ann in the 1841 census living on the Thorpe Grange farm. He is also listed with he r in the 1851 census. He died in 1853 at the age of 66.
