to Sarah Fox, Thomas continued the trade of a bla cksmith until he bought a farm
in Thorpe within the parish of Barnby Dun. In most of the chr istenings of Thomas's
children, he is listed as a farmer. Thomas and his wife lost four of t heir
oldest children. His four youngest children lived close to one another.
Thomas die d at the age of 49 leaving small children for his wife to raise as
well as run the farm in Th orpe. Throughout Thomas's will, one would get the
impression that he was struggling with po or health and also at the thought of
leaving his wife and children. Each of his family membe rs are referred to as
well beloved. There is also strong reference to his belief in God.
In the Name of God Amen I Thomas Parkin of Thrope in the parish of Barndy Dun
in the count y of York Farmer being very sick and weak of body but of perfect
mind and memory thanks be gi ven unto God therefore calling unto mind the mortality
of my body knowing that it is appointe d unto all men once to die do make and
ordain this my last Will and Testament, that is to say t primarily and first
of all I give and recommend my soul into the hands of Almighty God tha t gave
it and my body I recommend to the Earth to be buried in such Christian Burial
at the d iscretion of Sarah my dearly beloved Wife nothing doubting but at the
general Resurrectio n I shall receive the same again by the Almighty power of
God and as touching such Worldy Est ate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless
me in life I give demise and disperse of the sam e in the following manner and
form. My will and desire that all my just debts and funeral ch arges to be paid
and discharged by Executrix hereinafter named. Also I give and demise to Sa
rah my dearly beloved Wife all and singular my Goods Chattels and other Effects
whatsoeve r I did possessed of to her freely to be possess and enjoyed during
her life for and toward s the use of bringing up my children whose names are
also mentioned. Also my further will an d desire is that after my dearly beloved
wife decease I give all my goods chattels and othe r effects whatsoever I did
possess to Sarah Parkin my well beloved Daughter, William Parkin m y well beloved
Son, Thomas Parkin my well beloved Son, John Parkin my well beloved Son, Hanna
h Parkin my well beloved Daughter and Mary Parkin my well beloved daughter to
be divided equa lly amongst them, share and share alike after the youngest shall
attained the age of twenty-o ne years. Also my further will and desire is that
if any of the above children should happe n to die before the youngest shall
arrive at the age specified above then their share or shar es to go to the surviving
Children or an equal proportion or share and share alike. Also m y further will
and desire is that a Conveyance of the House belonging to me at Barnby Dun i
n the Occupation of George Head and all the Lands belonging to me lying in the
several open F ields and Ings in the parish of Barnby Dun aforesaid now in my
own occupation to be made ove r to Ann Parkin my well beloved Sister of Barnby
Dun aforesaid as soon as possible after my d ecease, her paying a proper consideration
for the same. Also my further will and desire is t hat John Thompson of White
House in the parish of Barnby Dun aforesaid will be pleased to tak e upon him
the Office of Tustee to this my last Will and Testament and I do hereby impower
hi m to see that this my last Will and Testament be executed accoriding to the
last intent and m eaning thereof and he to be allowed all reasonable charges
and expenses for whatever troubl e he may happen to be at in the execution of
this my last Will and Testament if the sale requ ire it. Lastly I do make and
constitute Sarah my dearly beloved Wife Executrix of this my la st Will and Testament.
And I do hereby declare this to be my last Will and Testament revokin g all
other Wills and Testaments whatsoever In Witness hereof I have herunto set my
hand an d seal this tenth day of June and in the year of our Lord Christ One
thousand Eight hundred.
